My New Job

There is much debate about which is harder, being a working mother or being a stay at home mom. I am lucky enough to get to sample both, as I have a job where I am off about 6-8 weeks in the summer. But the hardest thing is transitioning between the two. Every summer, I spend the first few weeks just trying to find my footing - trying to fingure out, "What is my job?". Although it looks like it would be simple, it really takes some adjustment.

My typical day at work consists of as much control and order as I can pull off. I am NOT an organized person but I do feel like I have "control" over my day. At the beginning of the year things are pretty hairy. But by second semester, I feel like I'm a bit more with it. Have you noticed how much easier it is to make other people's kids mind?

As most of you know, my afternoons and evenings after work are often spent at home alone with my children. So, sometimes, home is more stressful for me than my job. The summer months are just an extension of this.......

The kids evidently feel like they have free reign of the house and are intent on trying to open every cabinet and drag out every thing they haven't had the time at home to look at in the last nine months. They are also used to being occupied and entertained so I end up feeling like "activities coordinator". When you have to be "cop" and "activities coordinator", who has time to be the "cook", right? No, three meals (or more) must be prepared and cleaned up each day. My dishwasher runs at least 3 times every day in the summer.

In the first few days, I think that being at home 24 hours a day with both the kids will make me go out of my mind. But after a week or so, I get my groove. I realize that there is no conference tomorrow or homework or therapy to plan for. This is my new job-- full time parent. And the summer months make me enjoy being a parent even more.

Thank you, God, for blessing me with a wonderful job where I am given this opportunity.

Okay, now you must make me a header!!!! I'm sure we can work something out....

I so know what you mean here. I think it is just hard for us to adjust. And, maybe the kids are adjusting too. It's like vacation for them so all the rules are out the window in their minds. Free reign! The most frustrating thing for me is the constant fighting. I can handle the kids at work hitting, kicking, biting, and cussing me. I can hold them through the worst fit and never lose my cool. But, one whine out of my kids and it sends me over the edge. Who is this person I've become?

Amanda,

I made that header with Fotofusion (the program I make all the invitations and stuff with). You really need to get that program. It is so easy to use. The scrapbooking elements are purchasable but I get "credits" somehow and I've never actually "paid" for anything except the program. You can download a sample and all of your stuff will be watermarked until you buy it--- it's great, you would not be disappointed. But if you want me to do something for you, send me some pics and ideas and colors and I can throw one together for you.

I know exactly what you are talking about...my first week off from school, I am thinking "I am on vacation, please leave me alone and let me rest"...but then I quickly realize that someone lied...I am not on vacation at all- my job description just changed. After the first week or so I tend to adjust like you have and figure it all out but it is a definite transition and once I figure it all out, I love every minute of it!

I am so glad you love your job. And I know that you just forgot to say that the reason you love it so much is because of having such a great boss. Ha Ha

My kids think they have the run of the house and I am not home to tell them otherwise and then I have to come home and clean up all the messes that have been made by all 3 "boys". I know, I know, I choose this. I could not do it if Tal was not here for the boys all summer. It is just that I hate having to have someone else get them to the baseball bus, or to ball practice, or to team basketball camp. Yelp, this has all gone on this week. Then you throw in my annual Dr. appointment, and what a week we have had.

Anyway enjoy your time with your kids. They soon will be teenagers, I know it all too well.

And throw on top of that Avery getting even closer to Mommy and becoming more of a Mommys girl. Tate is talking nonstop and is a busybody. Yep, I would say you are going to have your hands full this summer!
